Some presents are opened, admired and put in a drawer. A good reed diffuser is not one of them. It sits on a shelf, gets on with its job and is still quietly earning its keep when the decorations come down.
Airy Fragrances is a UK-based home fragrance brand that takes its cues from Japan. Each scent is tied to a particular landscape, and the diffusers themselves are made there. Two of them caught our eye for this guide, and they suit very different people.

Mystic Essence 空
This is the lighter of the pair, and the one for anybody who finds the usual cinnamon and clove of the season a bit much. White fig and lychee lead, with eucalyptus keeping things fresh. Cherry blossom, rosemary and marigold sit behind them, and the base is a soft mix of raspberry, peach and musk.
The brand describes it as capturing “the softer, greener side of late summer, where the sweetness of white fig and lychee meets delicate herbs and airy florals.” It is fruity without being sugary, and would be at home in a bedroom, a bathroom or a hallway that needs lifting on a grey afternoon.

Forest Breath 森
If Mystic Essence is the open window, Forest Breath is the walk in the woods. It is built around hinoki, the Japanese cypress long used for temples and bathhouses, and takes its inspiration from the forests of Nagano. Clary sage and geranium open alongside the hinoki, rose, gardenia and patchouli follow, and sandalwood and honey give it warmth.
It is a calm, woody scent rather than a heavy one, and a safe choice for somebody whose taste you are not entirely sure of. Airy Fragrances says it was a Gold Winner at the Universal Beauty Awards 2026.

Why they make a good gift
The bottle does a lot of the work. It is a frosted glass flask with a round base and a tall neck, simple enough to suit almost any room and smart enough to leave out on show. Each one comes with eight reeds.
Both fragrances are alcohol-free, vegan and cruelty-free, according to the brand, which also says a 250ml bottle typically lasts between two and a half and six months depending on the room. Refills are sold separately, so the bottle need not be thrown away when it runs dry.
At £40 it sits comfortably in the thoughtful-but-not-extravagant bracket. One for a host, a new homeowner, or the relative who insists they do not want anything.
